HEALTH and LIFESTYLE
Did you know that…
we’re having a short break and although there are no classes this week, our 6 week Summer term of classes returns from Tuesday 12 July and I look forward to seeing you all then.
in our summer Fitness Pilates classes, we’ll still be strengthening and toning but we’ll also be doing more stretching and relaxing too so if you haven’t joined us before or haven’t been to our classes in a while, you’re very welcome to come and join and work out with us.
You can sign up (email me) and book your place or just turn up and work out with us.
I love to use raw cacao powder to make home made chocolates, puddings, cakes (‘healthy’ ones of course!!), shakes etc. Cacao, unlike sugar-laden chocolate bars which have no nutritional value, isn’t very sweet but you soon get used to it. Cacao contains magnesium and antioxidants. When you buy a chocolate bar with the cacao percentage on it, generally if it says 60%, then 60% will be cacao and 40% will be sugar.
I usually go for a 70% dark chocolate and occasionally buy an 85% one – I just eat less of it which is probably a good thing!
Dark chocolate has more potassium, magnesium and iron which are all important for managing fatigue.
Actually, maybe I should eat more of it!! Hmm. I better buy in bulk, ha!
that using Epsom salts in your bath is a great way to distress and detoxify the body.
The salts contain magnesium which can be absorbed through the skin while you soak.
Magnesium stimulates nerve and muscle function, limits inflammation, and improves oxygenation and blood flow through the body.
Quantities: generally I add ½ cup of magnesium/Epsom salts to a bath.
Turmeric’s active ingredient, curcumin, has been in the news a lot because of its remarkable anti-cancer properties. There’s a wealth of exciting info coming through about curcumin’s role in warding off memory loss, depression, chronic disease, and more. Turmeric has potent anti-inflammatory properties too.
I love turmeric and often add it to smoothies, chia puddings as well as stews etc too.
I also like to make a warming hot drink of ½ tsp organic turmeric, a couple of grinds of black pepper, ½ -1 tsp honey and top with hot water, stir and drink.
Cherry juice alleviates muscle soreness – good to know (especially when we start back again next week!), ha.
Something to think about:
Please let me know how you’ve got on with your fitness and in our classes and if you’ve enjoyed them this year so far. Please also let me know if you’ve noticed a difference in your fitness levels, shape, muscle tone etc.
Have the classes helped you with other sports or exercise ie golf etc?
What are your aims for summer fitness? You don’t have to have aims as such but you might want to either get fit, start a new class, maintain the fitness that you have built on or are you training for an event ie a 10k etc –
let me know.
