Fitness Newsletter 30 June

There are NO CLASSES this week or next as we’re on holiday but I look forward to seeing you in our summer classes – dates below.

Welcome to this week’s Fitness Newsletter which is shorter than usual but nevertheless, I hope that you still find it interesting. I look forward to seeing you from Tue 15 July onwards 🙂

HEALTH and LIFESTYLE

Something to think about
‘We can’t be eating out of vending machines and make any progress in consciousness” – David Wolfe

Over prepare, then go with the flow. Be eccentric now. Dont wait for old age to wear purple. Envy is a waste of time. You have all you need.

Did you know?
that although I’m on holiday down in Yorkshire this week, I’m looking forward to our 6 weeks of summer classes starting the week of Tue 15 July and hope to see you at as many classes over the summer as possible.

that even though there are no classes this week, you might like to exercise by gardening (if you don’t have a garden or if your’s is perfect, you can always ‘borrow’ mine while I’m away!!!) –
Article: Gardening provides many health benefits including high to moderate intensity exercise.

If you read the whole article (link below), you’ll see that there are numerous reasons why gardening is good for you. One is related to the fact that your body needs perpetual motion to function optimally and gardening is one way to stay active at times when you might otherwise be sitting still. Fitness researchers found that when you exercise outdoors, you exercise harder but perceive it as being easier than when exercising indoors which can have significant health benefits and it encourages you to work out harder than you might otherwise. Good to know. Read more at

I also came across another article (there are many) from Dr Mercola about the benefits of Olive Oil. Lots of info here about olive oil about the health and beauty benefits and it also includes a recipe for Thyme Chicken Salad. The article also interested me because at the weekend, I made Nigella’s Chocolate Olive Oil Cake which was lovely with rasps and coconut cream yum!

Here’s the article about the benefits of olive oil:

Did you also know that:
Nicola is starting a brand new 30 min Metafit class from 6.30pm this Thursday 3 July in Dreghorn Loan Hall £4 with the optional extra 15 min Ab Blast class afterwards – £5 for both classes. Please go along or better still, sign up and book your place and encourage friends and colleagues too. As the poster says “this ain’t no dance class”.

that this comes under ‘more health, lifestyle and wellbeing benefits’ – Meditation
did you know that meditation can remove stress and replace it with a dose of inner peace. It’s one of the best tools we have to balance our emotions, deal with physical and psychological distress and promote the peace of the present moment. But it can be tough to meditate without a teacher or guide. Meditating on your own requires some effort while guided meditations literally walk you through a meditation and help you find a calm and peaceful state, one step at a time. Try one of these free guided meditations, each with a unique theme. So, will you be getting the balance right this week by eating well, gardening, exercising and meditating (not a the same time!!) Click on the link and you’ll see that these free meditations (there are 16 to choose from) range from 5 minutes to an hour.
