Something to think about
Don’t give up – the beginning is always the hardest.

Please have a look at The Big Question at the bottom of this Newsletter and email me your thoughts, thanks.

Successful people maintain a positive focus in life no matter what else is happening. They choose to concentrate on their success, rather than their failures, and on the next action steps they need to take. Use the tips outlined in this article to stay positive and proactive as you create your ideal life

“All disease begins on a cellular level,” Dr. Terry Wahls, Chief of Primary Care at the Iowa VA Medical Center says. “When cells are starved of building blocks they need, disease begins.” Dr Wahls became increasingly disabled as a result of her progressive MS and says that “Life is self-correcting chemistry” and “If we fix the nutrition, this is the real way to address the root cause of most disease.” So Dr. Wahls developed a diet that would provide the building blocks her broken cells needed. It’s a modified Paleo diet that entails eating 9 cups of vegetables a day with plenty of meats, fish, organ meats, nuts, seeds, berries and adequate quantities of good fats and it also provides far more than the RDA for the 31 key nutrients for the brain. With that diet and physical therapy, she soon began to improve and after 6 months, she was able to ride her bike—something she hadn’t been able to do for a decade.
Now she is conducting clinical trials in MS patients to prove this wasn’t a fluke, and the studies are going very well. In addition, she uses a nutritional approach at the VA with her traumatic brain injury patients, as well as those in her therapeutic lifestyle clinic. She finds that all kinds of people get better—even those with difficult-to-treat conditions like Parkinson’s, fibromyalgia, obesity and other autoimmune conditions.
Dr. Wahls believes that some day prescribing diet therapy will be part of our medical protocols. She says, “Creating health comes down to the food we eat and how we choose to live our lives.”

As I’m interested in health, wellbeing and nutrition, I found this article interesting. The above is an excerpt but you can read the whole article at

Did you know?
that because Dreghorn Loan Hall will be used for polling for the European Elections on Thursday 22 May, I’ve arranged that we can use The Dell Room, Colinton Parish Church for ONE COMBINED Fitness Pilates class 7.30 – 8.30pm that night. Please put the date and venue in your diary. You might find it easier to either park in Dreghorn Loan or Westgarth Avenue and walk from there as there’s limited parking near the church. Either walk to the Royal Bank, turn the corner, and keep walking over the bridge till you get to the church and walk through the glass doors – you’ll see us there. You could also walk down the steps between Fanelli’s and the pub and at the bottom of the steps, turn right across the bridge to the church. Remember to bring your mat and water.

about Spa in the City?
At this year’s Spa in the City, Neal’s Yard Remedies (NYR) will be offering free Massage and Alexander Technique taster sessions. The event has expanded to 3 venues this year – St Andrew Square Gardens, Grassmarket and West End Plaza (beside House of Fraser). The event runs from 9.30am-4pm on both Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 May.
Visitors to NYR stall will receive a voucher for a discount on a full price treatment in their Therapy Rooms, and a free 50ml Power Berry Moisturiser when they spend £10 in store.

I’ve also been to a few of NYR workshops (very good) and due to the popularity of their recent Superhero Snack Making Workshop Series they’ll be offering these again to help nourish your self to optimal wellness this summer…
Part 1. Fuelling Up – Wed 28 May & Part 2. Blast Off – Wed 18 June
Part 3. A Force of Nature & Part 4. The Final Frontier – tbc, 6.30-8pm
To book up/find out more, Neal’s Yard Remedies are at 102 Hanover Street. Tel: 226 3223

***THE BIG QUESTION: Thursday Fitness Pilates Class/es Times*** please email back
If you come to the 7pm or 8pm Thursday Fitness Pilates classes, what are your thought about those start times? Just that I’m wondering if you would still come to the classes IF (not definite) we combined them to one class at 7.30pm-8.30. If you come to the 7pm class, would you still come if it was at 7.30pm? Similarly if you come to the 8pm class, would you be able to get there ½ an hour earlier? I need to know so that I can make arrangements for September onwards. Please, please, please let me know your thoughts – email me (address below), thanks. Of course if everyone (the majority) are still happy with the current times, I’m happy to continue but would need to look at advertising more to increase numbers especially in the 8pm class to make it worthwhile.
