HEALTH and LIFESTYLE

Did you know that…
your hard work will pay off, every day you’re getting stronger, keep going, don’t give up.

exercising and being more active can help reduce stress. Exercising or walking out of doors can also improve your Vitamin D levels too.

we need about 300mg a day of magnesium in order to absorb vitamin D properly. Magnesium-rich foods include dark green leafy veg, nuts, seeds, legumes and whole grains.

according to French research, over 60s need to do 15 minutes of low level activity eg brisk walking every day to cut their early death risk by 22%.

drinking green tea can contribute to burning body fat – the catechin content can boost your metabolism.

the Edinburgh Fringe is on from 5 – 29 August with over 3000 events, performances and shows.
Did you also know that the Fringe dates back to 1947? Wow, such a long time.
We love the Fringe and try to go to as many shows as we can … sometimes, we go to loads of shows and then other times, it’s just one or 2 but usually ones that are recommended to us and usually either music or dance.
We love drums and I see that there are Korean and Japanese drumming shows – oh I need to get booked up, soon. Great if you can get 2 for 1 tickets or go to the Half Price Tent too, especially if you want to see quite a few shows!

Something to think about:
‘Once upon a time, all food was organic’ – FMTV

Buying organic isn’t just about our food though. You can now buy (or make your own) beauty and cleaning products. Bicard of soda, vinegar and lemon juice are some of the things that are useful for cleaning in the house and if you ‘make’ your own, you can save a fortune – and the planet. You can also use organic coconut oil as a body moisturiser too.

“Imagine there is a bank account that credits your account each morning with $86,400. It carries over no balance from day to day. Every evening the bank deletes whatever part of the balance you failed to used during the day. What would you do? Draw out every cent, of course? Each of us has such a bank, it’s name is time.
Every morning, it credits you 86,400 seconds. Every night it writes off as lost, whatever of this you failed to invest to a good purpose. It carries over no balance. It allows no over draft.
Each day it opens a new account for you. Each night it burns the remains of the day.
If you fail to use the day’s deposits, the loss is yours. There is no drawing against “tomorrow”.
You must live in the present on today’s deposits. Invest it so as to get from it the utmost in health and happiness. The clock is running. Make the most of today” David Wolfe

Diary Date: Edinburgh’s Vegan Festival is on over the weekend of 20 + 21 August in 38 Charlotte Square. Unfortunately, I/we can’t go this year as we’re away but we did go last year and it was busy but really worth going. Details at http://veganfestival.co.uk/attend/

‘Just because the past didn’t turn out like you want it to, doesn’t mean your future can’t be better than you’ve ever imagined’ – unknown

I love Mind Body Green (website and Facebook pages) and haven’t been ‘on’ for a while but there are so many interesting articles on their website. Have a look – you could search for an article about which ingredients you shouldn’t be in protein powders about what shouldn’t be in protein powders or have a look at which ‘healthy’ foods could be causing inflammation.

I’m sure that you’ll be watching the Rio 2016 Opening Ceremony and the events which are on from 5-21 August.
There are 306 events taking place in 37 venues and 206 countries are taking part. Good luck to all the athletes.
