HEALTH and LIFESTYLE

Did you know that…
We finished our 2016 classes on Fri 16 Dec and we start back from Tue 10 Jan onwards.
So no classes this week but please schedule in your workouts and classes with us on 10, 11, 12 and 13 Jan.

Eleven of us really enjoyed our end-of-term festive fitness lunch at Las Iguanas last Monday.
The food and company were really great and it was lovely to catch up with everyone. Thanks to everyone that joined us.

“The only thing that is constant is change”

I’ve had a request for us to do Circuit toning classes on Wednesday mornings again so I thought we’d start that from 11 Jan. We can try it for a couple of weeks, see how it goes but I thought we can ‘mix it up’ and do group circuit toning one week, then groups of 4-6 people all doing the same exercise and another group doing something different then swapping etc and/or ½ the class doing upper body exercises while the other ½ does lower body workouts and swap. So start bringing your mat on a Wed at 9.30am again when we return.
Did you know that ‘mixing things up’ from time to time can help to keep our bodies challenged enabling us to carry on getting results.
We mixed up our Wed am class for the last 2 weeks and did our bit for Strictly with Fitness Salsa classes. (by the way, wasn’t the Final amazing? and well done to all 3 couples and especially to Ore and Joanne) I love salsa and know that some of you do too. It’s so good to free your hips, wiggle and have a dance about? Love it.

And of course, we constantly mix all the classes up by varying each one with different exercises (ok some are the same but then… you know what you’re doing). Variety is the spice of life so they say. New varieties, variations and options coming your way soon.

You can sign up/book in advance to make sure you get a space in our Fitness Pilates classes. There are always spaces but in January, people are thinking of getting back to fitness, especially those who haven’t been for a while or haven’t joined us before.

Just a handful of almonds a day can increase levels of ‘good’ HDL cholesterol. It’s a good idea to soak almonds (or any nuts) first then drain and rinse as this releases enzyme inhibitors making them more digestible. Almonds are rich in vitamin E and healthy fats. Good to know as I just made a birthday cake that’s full of almonds, eggs (so lots of protein), clementines (part of your 5-a-day!!), coconut palm sugar (which has more nutrients and has a lower glycaemic index than ordinary sugar) and I always reduce the stated amount of sugar anyway as the recipe said 225g but I added 80. I don’t like sweet cakes and think 80g is enough. It was topped with a bar of grated dark chocolate, orange and almond – yum so I might have a couple of slices of that!!

Something to think about:
If you’re still looking for new recipes for the festive period and beyond, have a look through tastemade.co.uk website for inspiration.

Also Dr Jill Carnahan (an American MD and Functional Medicine Expert) also has lots of healthy recipes on her website too at http://www.jillcarnahan.com/recipes/

I read this the other day and think it’s lovely and hope that you do too: “Relax a little, give life a chance to flow its own way, unassisted by your mind and effort. Stop directing the river’s flow!” – Mooji

Inspiration quotes:
‘Every pro was once an amateur. Every expert was once a beginner. So dream big. And start now’ – well, start with us from Tue 10 Jan to make improvements.

‘Strive for progress, not perfection’ and

Will it be easy? No. Will it be worth it? Oh yes, definitely.

I hope that you have a very merry Christmas, have fun, enjoy the festivities, relax and rest.
