HEALTH and LIFESTYLE

Did you know that
Being active boosts energy and self esteem and regular exercise can improve your memory, concentration and creativity so you know what to do – join us this week and let’s ‘work on it’ together.

19 Nov is the 3rd year for Edinburgh Vegan Festival and it’s on at the Roxburgh Hotel, 38 Charlotte Square.

Foodies Festival is on at the EICC 24-26 Nov and you can get 30% off tickets with code FOODIES30

a great website, company and great for recipes too www.realfoodsource.com/category/recipes/

Cacao has a rich source of nutrients known as polyphenols which are packed with antioxidants.
Cacao has been shown to reduce the amount of both LDL (bad) and total cholesterol which reduces the risk of heart disease. You can buy cacao nibs and powder from supermarkets, from H&B, Real Foods & Real Food Source (as above).

I’ve read that if you feel that you’re coming down with the cold, make yourself a drink by adding 1” fresh ginger root, 1T freshly squeezed lemon juice and 1T raw honey into a mug and add nearly-boiling water.
If you’re looking to boost your immune system (who isn’t?), keep yourself hydrated, drink less alcohol, exercise more, reduce stress levels and get more sleep.
Drinking lemon water helps maintain the pH levels in the body and drinking it in the morning can help to flush out toxins.

Usually we get organised, book up and pay our deposits (or full price for our meal) in advance and go out for our pre-Christmas fitness lunch mid December. However, this year, because of circumstances, I’ve not got round to organising anything. It was mentioned on Friday that some of us have a few Christmas lunches/dinners etc to go to in December and suggested that instead of (another) lunch, that we go out for coffee and cake after our class on Friday 15 Dec. I thought it was a great idea and would be really happy to do that – you? I’ve phoned The Pantry in Bridge Road to see if they can accommodate us but at this point (Sun 12 Nov), they don’t think they can put aside enough tables/chairs for 20 or so of us without a deposit! They did suggest that I also email my request and I’ve still to hear back from them and will let you know. I was thinking somewhere local, after the class would be good and then wondered if we could go to The Swing Café which is part of Colinton Parish Church. I haven’t been to The Swing Café for a long time and know that some of you do some shifts there so you can let me know about that as a possibility for coffee and cake. The only other local place I can think of is Spylaw Tavern but again, not been there in years either.

Quotes:
‘exercise is so difficult when you have to and so easy when you want to’
‘it’s a slow process, don’t make it slower by quitting’

I hope that you’ll join us again this week and I look forward to seeing you for more fitness, challenges and fun.
