HEALTH and LIFESTYLE
Did you know that…
November or Movember is Men’s Health Awareness Month.
The Movember Foundation is a global charity committed to men living happier, healthier, longer lives.
Since 2003, millions have joined the men’s health movement, raising £402 million and funding over 1,000 projects focusing on prostate cancer, testicular cancer, poor mental health and physical inactivity.

Guys (+ girls), please continue to be physically fit and active in our Fitness Pilates and Fitness Yoga classes and also encourage all your male friends, colleagues, neighbours etc to join us too.
It’s really great that the numbers of guys in our classes is increasing – let’s keep it that way so that we can all work out together and improve our health, fitness levels, get/stay strong and have fun too.
Get your fit on and let’s keep moving.
Here’s David who regularly works out in our Fitness Yoga class – like you all, he’s such a star and has really improved his flexibility and strength.
Well Done to Candice who won The Great British Bake Off last week. All the contestants did really well and created such amazing cakes, pastries etc. So much pressure as well with Paul, Mary etc, the crew, cameras there too.
I do like to make ‘healthy’ cakes often using almond meal, coconut oil, ground cinnamon etc and after making more almond milk the other day, I used the almond meal and made an almond, banana, apple and cinnamon loaf. I didn’t add any sugar or honey coz the fruit made it sweet enough. It’s so easy to make and you don’t have to have almond meal either – just use 1½ cups of ground almonds instead.
I soak almonds overnight firs making the nuts more digestible. Did you know that raw nuts have enzyme inhibitors on them and it’s always best to soak nuts for a few hours/overnight to release the inhibitors.
There’s a new US study out that says that a sprinkle of cinnamon could be the key to a better memory.
Cinnamon helps to stabilize blood sugar levels and can boost neurological processes involved in learning.
Let me know if you want the recipe for the loaf. Here’s a photo…
With it being Halloween and ‘trick or treat’ season, did you know that pumpkin contains lots of immune-boosting beta carotene, omega 3 and vitamin C. It’s also an excellent source of dietary fibre, B vitamins and manganese.
Squash contains polyunsaturated fatty acids which are good for us. I should’ve been more organised in advance and brought my medium/large sized pumpkin to the class last Wednesday and use it as a ‘weight’ but forgot!!!
We usually do that on the Wed class before Halloween and ask people to dress up. The last couple of years, some have worn a witch’s hat, orange top etc which is great fun. I don’t know if you’ve carved your pumpkin but I’m sure that you’ll be using the pumpkin flesh to make soup or add it to a lovely stew. We made a lovely pumpkin and coconut soup which also had potato and onion in it too – easy and delish.
Something to think about:
“You can’t pour from an empty cup. Take care of yourself first”. – FMTV
I heard this the other day and thought it was very true: ‘When life isn’t adding up, start subtracting’.
I found this on BBC iPlayer and thought you might be interested too. It’s about a high fat v carbs diet.
Click on it and skip the trailer. It says that in Wales, 59% of people are obese or overweight
If you’re on Twitter, go to the hashtag #FatvCarbs for more but “the simple answer is: eat real food, not from a factory” and eat a high fat, Mediterranean diet.
If you’re on Facebook, please go on to my Complementary Fitness page and go to the Review Tab and add a review about our classes, thanks.
