HEALTH and LIFESTYLE

Interesting/Did you know that…
There’s just a week till we’re back to exercising, our workouts and classes again and I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible in our summer classes which start back on Tue 18 July in Craiglockhart Church Hall and Wed 19, Thurs 20 & Fri 21 July in Dreghorn Loan Hall.
Till then, keep exercising, stretching and planking.
Did you know that the plank is such a great exercise which works every muscle?
Remember to engage our core muscles and imagine your abs pulling up towards your spine and remember to breathe too!
As you know, there are lots of plank variations too – on forearms, knees, side plank (again varying the side plank on knees, forearm, one foot behind the other, one leg directly on top of the other with feet together or split open!) and we can also plank in a supine position (sit on the floor, knees bent and feet on the floor, hands directly under shoulders then lift your glutes (your butt) off the floor so you’re in a straight body position from shoulders to knees).

There are a couple of venue change for classes coming up soon which you may want to take a note of in your diary/your phone although I’ll remind you nearer the time. However, they are:
1) Last week, I mentioned that Dreghorn Loan hall is unavailable on Wed 26, Thurs 27 & Fri 28 July but I’ve made alternative arrangements and have booked Craiglockhart Church Large Hall instead for our Wed & Fri 9.30am classes and our Thursday 7pm Fitness Pilates/Yoga class that week and I hope that you’ll join us in Craiglockart on those dates.

2) On Thurs 3 August, I’ve been asked by the church if we’d use The Dell Room, Colinton Parish Church instead for our 7pm Fitness Pilates/Yoga class. The change of venue that evening is because the church are having a big group of visitors and they’d like to use the Loan Hall as it’s bigger to accommodate everyone. I hope this 2nd change of venue in 2 weeks is ok with you – I’ll remind you nearer the time.

If you go to naturopathy-uk.com website and search for chia oat parfait, you’ll see it’s a great recipe, easy to make, healthy and the recipe includes chia jam (ie make your own), enjoy.

if you use the code: EARLYBIRDS25, you’ll get 25% off early bird tickets to the Foodies Festival in Inverleith Park 4-6 Aug. Details on foodiesfestival.com

recommendations:
a) we tried out the new vegan bar/restaurant in 60 Henderson St, Leith last week and loved our lunch there. The bar/kitchen restaurant is called Harmonium and we both enjoyed vegan Cullen skink (which had jackfruit in it instead of fish) and sourdough and it was delish.
There are lots of choices for starters, small dishes, mains and desserts and I particularly loved the delicious sea buckthorn and choc ‘cheese’cake (vegan of course) served with plain vegan ice ‘cream’. They serve juices and organic wines (some natural/biodynamic too).
Digressing a bit but did you know that I love, love, love Pinterest and get so many recipes on there (as well as ideas for all sorts of things ie holidays, fashion, hair, house etc) but if you search sea buckthorn on Pinterest, you’ll see loads of recipes and also find out how it’s good for you.
b) last week (still celebrating and trying new places!), we also went to Honeycomb & Co,
1 Merchiston Place which is another fairly-new breakfast/brunch eatery and we’ll definitely be back there, you’d love it.
So all these new places and I definitely need to (aka have to) get back to exercising soon!

Talking of which …. I read that combining exercise with good levels of vitamin D can reduce the risk of strokes & heart attacks so great for our cardiovascular system so let’s get out there, walk and maybe go out for a jog/run or play golf or tennis. You can of course plank just about anywhere too as I did in the Pentlands …

Enjoy this week ‘off’ and/or have a great week if you’re on holiday.
I’m really looking forward to seeing you all next week from 18 July and catching up.
No baby news yet but I’m sure it’ll not be too long now.

I look forward to seeing you from Tue 18 July onwards.
