Did you know that…
Bananas could hold the key to fighting colds, flu and viruses. US scientists say that they believe they can harness the potent power of BanLec, a chemical found in bananas. *
I added a banana to a one of the smoothies that I made last week which was made with homemade hazelnut milk, cacao powder, a couple of dates and 1 banana. Delicious.
I was also thinking that using hazelnut milk (I substituted my usual raw soaked almonds for hazelnuts for a change) and cacao powder together, it’s kind of like that famous chocolate spread without all the additives or sugar but still tasty. Cacao powder also is packed with antioxidant chemicals called flavanoids.
You can also add a teaspoonful of raw honey to the smoothie or ‘hot chocolate’ too if you’d like.
It’s said that if you do some sort of aerobic exercise at least 5 times a week, there’s a 40% less likelihood that you’ll catch a cold. *
So, are you doing any other training? Training for a run, triathlon or planning on hillwalking or a skiing trip soon? Nicola’s roped us into a doing a 10k run with her in June (well, didn’t have to twist our arm).
I used to run a lot years ago and kind of gave it up until we did some (not much/enough) training for the 12k, 50 obstacle Men’s Health Challenge that we did in Sept/Oct last year. Anyway, I’ll have to start running training again soon. It’s been so cold, wet, snowing, icy as you know and I’m kind of a fair-weather runner, shouldn’t be but am – wimp! What a ‘big girl’!
Adding in a quality olive oil or other monounsaturated fat is a great way to get good fats into your diet. Best to add oils as a dressing rather than heating them in shallow or deep frying!
