HEALTH and LIFESTYLE

Research Summary and Conclusion:
Researchers provide further evidence that physical activity can help to protect people from developing depressive symptoms and available evidence supports the notion that physical activity can confer protection against the emergence of depression regardless of age and geographical region.

I was reading an article about the benefits of the cobra pose in yoga – the upward facing pose where you lie on your front, place your hands under your shoulders and lift your upper body off the floor.
The article says that spending too many hours sitting at your laptop or slumping at the steering wheel can negatively impact your posture and to help keep your body healthy, they say that this yoga pose can help against bad posture by strengthening the vital muscles around the spine. It’s also an excellent way to get blood streaming to your heart

So, some of the benefits of this pose are:
• Strengthens the shoulders and arms
• Stretches muscles in the chest, shoulders and abdominals
• Increases flexibility
• Elevates mood
• Improves menstrual irregularities
• Invigorates the heart
• Tones and firms the buttocks
• Relieves stress and fatigue
• Improves digestion
• Improves blood circulation, especially throughout the pelvic and spinal regions
• Opens the chest clearing the passages of the lungs and heart and
• Strengthens the spine

I’m sure that you’ll know that not getting enough quality sleep can have an adverse affect on our health and concentration, memory, decision-making, creativity and mood can all be affected if we don’t get the recommended 7-9 hours of sleep a night. Our body systems can suffer and we can be susceptible to illnesses, colds, viruses, weight gain etc. You can find out more and how to sleep well at

There are a lot of articles, books, blogs etc about gut bacteria, our microbiome ‘out there’ at the moment and if you’re interested and want to find out more, read the article How To Feed Your Gut by Dr Mark Hyman.
You’ll see that there are lots of other articles, recipes etc on on his site too at:

I really like award winning greenpeople.co.uk organic and natural cleansers, beauty products, make up etc and the company started over 20 years ago. They also have sun care products too – I’m hoping that we get some warm sunny days soon.

Just an update re my Complementary Fitness page – I had lots of old videos on there till recently (ones with short hair) so deleted them and have added some more recent ones. If you’re on FB, please ‘like’ my page and have a look. Feel free to (please) write a Review about classes on my page too, thanks.

An alternative recipe for choc (vegan) mousse: blend 1 tin chickpeas, 4T maple syrup (I’d only add 1T myself but try 1 and add more if you need to), 2T tahini, ½ tsp vanilla extract, 5T cacao/cocoa powder and 4T water. You can spread it on toast or put in a bowl and top with berries, cacao nibs etc and enjoy.

Let me know how you’re getting on in our classes, if you feel a difference in your fitness levels, flexibility and strength and also if you like the different combinations and exercise routines that we do in all our classes. As you know, I like to ‘mix things up’ and each class is different and unique – just like us.

I look forward to seeing you and working out with you this week so that we can continue to improve on our fitness levels, strength, posture balance and flexibility together.
