FITNESS & LIFESTYLE
Did you know that
?
I was reading in a healthy mag article that apparently 38% of us can’t touch our toes due to tightness in our calves, hamstrings, glutes (buttock muscles) and stiff lower backs. Working on improving our flexibility (which is also a key component of fitness) is just as important as working on our general fitness and strength so let’s continue to improve all aspects of our fitness in our workouts. When we aim to improve our flexibility by flexing forward and touching our toes, we’ll improve our hamstring and back strength, range of motion, muscle elasticity and circulation too. Whether we’re working on improving our flexibility, core strength etc, it’s a continual practice too.
It doesn’t take long to lose any fitness benefits if we decide to stop or give up exercise altogether but then again, it doesn’t take long to accumulate when we start to exercise regularly either. Let’s continue to work out together and keep moving.
I believe that exercise helps us feel good both physically and mentally and we can notice positive changes ie confidence, energy levels, mood etc in ourselves.

Class comments
Thank you for these lovely comments about our classes which I thought I’d share them with you here (permission given):

1) “I still love the classes even after all these years. I feel so lazy and guilty if I don’t turn up and sit on the couch because I know how great I feel after one of your workouts. . .Keep up the fantastic work”!
(Melisa Tue/Wed/Thurs classes)

2) “I enjoy your classes especially because you vary all the routines and I do feel well stretched afterwards” (Jane Fri Yoga)

3) “I found Wednesday’s class (31/10) especially good. I liked very much the ‘cardio’ bit at the end.
Could you please have a circuits class sometime”? (Diana Wed class)

I know that some people love circuits (some don’t) so to try and keep everyone happy, I like to add a bit of/a small section of high impact skipping, maybe some jumping jacks etc in our Wednesday morning classes to improve our fitness levels, raise our heart rate, speed up metabolism. Of course, I always show and encourage anyone to take the low impact variations too. So because of the request for circuits, we did a 5 station circuit towards the end of the class on Wed 7 Nov and everyone seemed to love it. You certainly worked really hard during the whole class inc this circuit section.
On that occasion, our ‘stations’ were: squats with tricep kickbacks using resistance bands, kettlebell swings, lunging forward and back, squats with shoulder/arm circles and the last one was skipping/jogging.
Well done everyone.
After the class had finished, I got a text from Diana to say “Circuits/brilliant/thank you”.

It’s always good to change things up, vary workouts, adapt, move forward (and back and side-side ha ha), keep improving, continue to move and because you continue to ‘come back for more’ week by week, I hope that you agree.
Thanks for your continued support for our Complementary Fitness classes. It wouldn’t be the same without you.

Someone else told me at the end of Tuesday’s Fitness Pilates class last week that they really enjoyed the class, that it was challenging in a good way and that they always look forward to our Tue & Thursday evening candlelight classes in December. She said that ‘I know I’ve got to get through November classes and that I can look forward to the relaxing candlelight classes’.

So just to let you know that we usually have Fitness Pilates/Fitness Yoga by Candlelight classes on a Tue & Thursday in December and this year, they’ll be on Tue 4 + 11 and Thurs 6 and 13 December.
So what happens is: we bring our own tea lights and candle holders and we do our usual warm up, then a short Pilates or yoga session and at about 40 minutes into the class, we get our tea lights and we light then.
I put the lights off, we get and put our sweat tops back on, keep cozy and stretch and focus on our breathing and relaxation for the last 20 minutes of the class.

According to a naturalnews.com article if you’ve ever doubted whether organic food is worth the higher price tag, a study that was recently published in JAMA Internal Medicine should put your concerns to rest.
In the study, French researchers showed that people who consume organic food have a lower risk of cancer.
The study looked at the diets of nearly 70,000 French adults with an average age in their mid-40s and after a follow up period of 4½ years, they were able to determine that those who ate the most organic food were 25% less likely to develop cancer than those who didn’t eat organic food.

Please let me know how you’re getting on in our classes and what improvements you feel you’ve made in your fitness, diet and general lifestyle, thanks – I look forward to hearing from you and seeing you soon.

I look forward to seeing you and working out with you this week in Dreghorn Loan Hall and Craiglockhart Church Hall so that we can continue to improve on our fitness levels, strength, posture balance and flexibility together.

Take care
SUSAN
