Complementary Fitness 15 July news + updates

Join our summer Complementary Fitness Pilates/Yoga + toning Colinton + Craiglockhart, Edinburgh classes for improved strength + flexibility. Look on our Classes where/when page for times etc.S

Exercise gives us a lot of benefits including helping improve blood flow, oxygenate cells, balance blood sugar levels and moods.  It can also reduce the risk of heart disease by improving blood pressure, plasma cholesterol, blood sugar and improve the circulation of immune cells.  Even 20 mins of mild-moderate exercise ie walking 3 x a week can lower blood pressure.

Please bring a kettlebell with you if you have one on Wednesday – I have a few spare or bring your hand held weights – or a moderate weight pair and a heavier weight pair too.

I read some benefits of active Pilates/Yoga/exercise sessions are:

  • Helps boost immune system
  • Helps improve sleep
  • Helps reduce/improve digestive issues
  • Improves muscle tone
  • Reduces anxiety and stress
  • Improves lung capacity
  • Improves focus
  • Improves posture and flexibility
  • Increases bone strength
  • Can lower hypertension – high blood pressure
  • Helps regulate hormones

Did you know that:

*avocados contain 20 essential health-boosting nutrients including potassium, vitamin E, B vitamins & folate.  Avocados help you to feel full throughout the day and are helpful for regulating blood sugar levels, helping to keep mood steady if we feel stressed.  I love making guacamole (I sometimes add green peas to it to up protein content) but also add avocados into smoothies or add into salads.  As I’ve mentioned before, I sometimes make a chocolate mousse using a small (or ½ a large) avocado, banana, cacao powder, almond milk and blitz in a blender.  Avocados are so versatile.

*last Wednesday, after the class, (talking of avocados), I made a delicious and filling 3 green smoothie.

I blended 1 cup of coconut water, 1 small courgette, ½ medium avocado, 1 frozen banana, 1tsp greens powder, juice and zest of ½ lemon, 1T protein powder.  It made enough for 2 smoothies or you can make it into a smoothie breakfast bowl then top it off with berries, coconut flakes, seeds and/or nuts and enjoy.

*coconut oil contains a number of health-giving properties including being high in antioxidants, helps to maintain blood sugar levels, helps the thyroid gland and repairs the skin.  I’ve got an article on my website (the Articles tab is on a drop-down menu under the Fitness tab) but you can eat coconut oil as-it-is, blend into smoothies, use in cooking and you can also put on your skin to soften and hydrate.

*antioxidants are the amazing nutrients and enzymes that are essential for fighting life threatening diseases; the negative effects of UV radiation which in turn gives us younger-looking skin and other age related decline.  Among other things, you’ll get antioxidants from foods such as raw fruits, green veggies, dark chocolate and matcha green tea.

I’d like to hear from you so please give me any feedback about our classes, how you’re getting on, your diet and lifestyle, where you’re going on holiday, if you’ve got anything to share with us here ie interesting articles or tips, thanks.

I look forward to seeing you this week for more summer fitness, fun, exercise/stretch options & variations while we’re working towards improving our flexibility, strength, posture and balance too.
