According to Dr Cabeca from SexyYoungerYou, “one of the most important factors in health—perhaps the most important from a functional medicine point of view—is food. Accordingly, I view food as medicine, and one of my first concerns is to make sure that my patients are eating the foods that can make them well and avoiding the foods that can make them sick. Sugar, refined carbohydrates, trans and hydrogenated fats, preservatives, and artificial ingredients can be particularly toxic and are often implicated in hormonal issues as well as in many other health concerns. My functional-medicine colleagues and I understand that we can literally use food to shift a patient’s biochemistry, often with dramatic results”.

Turmeric is used as a spice, food additive and in herbal medicine throughout the world. It’s amazing medicinal properties which include anti cancer, antioxidant and anti inflammatory capacities. Turmeric is easy enough to add to your diet – try to consume turmeric on a daily basis and make it part of your daily routine and reap the benefits.
Here’s an easy turmeric tea recipe:
v Bring 4 cups of water to a boil
v Add 1 teaspoon of ground turmeric and reduce to a simmer for 10 minutes
v Strain the tea through a fine sieve into a cup, add honey and/or lemon to taste
v enjoy

Recipe for Pomegranate Love Smoothie
v ½ cup water
v fresh pineapple (cut, cored and cubed)
v ½ cup pomegranate seeds
v ½ inch peeled fresh ginger
1. Pour water into a Vitamix or high speed blender.
2. Add in pineapple chunks, pomegranate, and ginger.
3. Blend on high for at least a minute, to ensure pomegranate seeds are fully pulverized.
4. Serve and enjoy!

Did you know?
Cortisol is your stress hormone that stores fat, breaks down muscle, crashes metabolism.
What raises cortisol? Too little sleep, eating a high-sugar diet, too much exercise ‘too much’ exercise means hours a day, every day). How do you de-stress? I’d like to know.

Lets make today a new day. Eating healthy foods have been shown to help to lower the risk of heart disease, lower the risk of diabetes and increase bone and muscle strength.

Commitment– there are only two options regarding commitment: you’re either IN or you’re OUT. Are you in or are you out? Commit to fitness, health, life, happiness, wellbeing and your future.

FocusOn healthy macronutrients in your diet: healthy proteins, carbohydrates and fats. Go for organic, grass-fed, whole, free range, healthy, nutritious (rather than processed, packaged, laden with sugar, trans fats, salt etc)

Stay Organised and schedule in your exercise and class times in your diary and don’t forget to slot in time for yourself doing something that you enjoy too. Make a Plan – what will be on your Plan apart from all the To Do stuff?

If you focus on results, you will never change but if you focus on change, you will get results.
