Hi and Welcome to this Complementary Fitness Newsletter
I hope you’re well and enjoying all of Complementary Fitness classes.
W/c 8/10 is week 6 of our social, community-based fitness classes where you get to catch up with a great group of people all working on becoming fitter and healthier.

Health + Lifestyle
Here’s a healthy brownie recipe that I’ve tried a couple of times. It’s so easy to make and everyone loves them. I’ve asked people to guess what’s in them and no one has guessed yet that there are organic black beans in them!

Black Bean Brownies by Meredith Terranova, RD/
Ingredients: 15 ounces black beans, drained and rinsed, 2 bananas, 1/3 cup honey, maple syrup or molasses,1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa, 1 tablespoon cinnamon,1 teaspoon vanilla extract, 1/4 cup raw sugar (optional – I haven’t used sugar at all and don’t think you need it), 1/4 cup instant oats (gluten free if preferred)

What to do:
Preheat oven to 350 F. Grease an 8x 8 inch tin and set aside. Combine all ingredients, except oats, in a food processor or blender and blend until smooth, scrapping sides as needed. Stir in the oats. If too soft, add another 1/4 cup oats or flour.
Pour batter into the pan. Bake 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow to cool before slicing.
Notes: Because there isn’t any flour these brownies come out pretty dense.
Rolled oats may be substituted for the instant oats. Put the rolled oats in the food processor. Use optional sugar if your bananas are still green and not very ripe. Yum

Just to let you know…
I’ve been teaching 2 Fitness Pilates classes on a Thursday evening in Dreghorn Loan Hall for about 7 years now but recently, the numbers have dropped but this could be for a number of reasons. As you’ll know, I had thought about changing one of the Thursday evening classes to a teach Freestyle Fitness Yoga (FFY) class and keeping the other as Fitness Pilates but …..
numbers were much better in class last night (Thurs 4 Oct) and that everyone who does come to either class, enjoys it, feels that they benefit from it and they like Fitness Pilates at either 7pm or 8pm.
So, I’m going to keep both classes as they are (Fitness Pilates) and hope that numbers still improve – I’ll do more advertising and see if we can encourage new people to join us too.
(I love teach Fitness Pilates and seeing everyone improve)

I might try and see about a different day or evening and venue and teach a FFY class in the future/soon.
Because church and community halls are used by lots of different groups these days, it’s hard to find a good venue and time, we’ll see though.
