Summer classes – dates & venues
All classes are in Craiglockhart Church Hall again this week and it was great to see so many of you there last week – thanks very much for coming and taking part.
Just to let you know that next week, we’re still in Craiglockhart church hall as usual on Tuesday 24/7 at 7.30pm but our Wed + Fri 9.30am and our Thursday 7pm classes are back in Dreghorn Loan church hall, Colinton.

Then …. as Dreghorn Loan Hall isn’t available again on Wed 1, Thurs 2 + Fri 3 August, I’ve decided to have the week off and as Norman’s retiring at the end of this week, I’ll be whisking him off (and me too) for a week in Barcelona which we absolutely love.
After that, everything’s ‘back to normal’ with no more holidays till the end of the year.

Hasn’t this summer weather been amazing? It’s been so lovely to eat outside and spend time in the garden. Since we came back from Lisbon, we’ve been busy weeding, tidying and adding some extra colour into the garden. I’m no gardener but love the ‘before and after’ effect even though it is hard work.
Yesterday was our granddaughter Layla’s first birthday and we had some family over to celebrate and I wanted to tidy the garden for that knowing (hoping) that it would be a lovely sunny day and we could sit outside. I made lots of food and a Neapolitan mousse cake which was raw, vegan, gluten free and delicious.

The Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival is still on this week and I’m going to head into town and get tickets for Rumba de Bodas which is on tonight at 6pm in George Sq Speigeltent. Have a look for this and other events which are on till 22 July at
There are lots of shows on to enjoy.

Oh then there’ll be other Festivals starting in the summer to enjoy as well. We love The Fringe and although haven’t booked anything yet, definitely want to go and see/hear ‘Why is mental illness so goddamn controversial?’ It’s on for one night only on 11 Aug at 8.10pm for an hour in The Stand’s New Town Theatre, Freemasons’ Hall, 96 George St and Psychiatrist Stephen Lawrie (who comes to our Tue & Thursday classes) is ‘the guy who’s doing the show’! Woo hoo, I’m sure it’ll be a great talk/event. It’s on page 301 of the Fringe Guide.
Stephen gave me permission to tell you all about it and hopefully encourage you to get tickets too.
Good luck Stephen and here’s what he says about the show:
“My Fringe ‘show’ is called ‘Why is Mental Illness so goddamn controversial’ and is on for ‘one night only’ on Saturday 11th August 8-9pm at the New Town Theatre in George Street. Here’s a link:
The format is that I will talk to the title for 15 mins or so and then discuss with the audience, compered by the comedian Susan Morrison.

(There’s also going to be an event on ‘Myths about depression’ at The Biggar Science Festival on Friday 21.9.18 and something on ‘Happiness’ in the Midlothian Science Festival at Ikea on Wed 10.10.18, both in the evening).
Which (other) shows are you booking up for? Let me know your recommendations and I’ll pass them on here.

So … getting back to fitness – how are we going to get our bodies ready for the beach and our holidays?
Answer: by eating a well balanced diet, possibly some time-restricted eating (read about it at and EXERCISE including some lunges, squats, shoulder bridges, planks etc so let’s do all of these and other exercises this week in our classes to tone up and get in shape.

I look forward to seeing you and working out with you this week in Craiglockhart Church Hall so that we can continue to improve on our fitness levels, strength, posture balance and flexibility together.
