Interesting/Did you know that…
Physical exercise keeps us fit and active, it can enhance our mood, be fun and can be social bonding us together when working in a group or class. I’m so grateful that some of you have been coming to my classes for years (some 20 years) and we’ve made and kept the friendships that we’ve made – what’s not to love?
Let’s continue to improve, keep going and train and work out together.
I read in the latest FitPro mag that a 14 year study found that women who participated in any strength training had a 30% reduction in developing type 2 diabetes and a 17% reduction in developing cardiovascular disease compared to women who completed no strength training. Women who participated in both strength training and >120 mins of aerobic exercise demonstrated a 65% risk reduction for type 2 diabetes.
It also said that if they only participated in aerobic exercise the risk reduction was 48% and if women participated in both strength training and > 120 mins of aerobic exercise, they had a 39% reduction in developing cardiovascular disease. If they only participated in aerobic exercise, this resulted in a 21% reduction of risk. Lots of numbers and figures here but conclusions said that women who participated in higher amounts of both strength training and aerobic exercise had a greater reduction in type 2 diabetes than those who only strength trained or completed aerobic exercise.

On Friday, I mentioned that I was going to do a short mini warm up video but my phone ran out of memory when I started to film (oh no!!!) so I’ve deleted a lot of photos (or rather, transferred them to my laptop and icloud) and will try and get some videos done this week so that you can practice at home if you’d like. I haven’t done any exercise videos for absolutely ages (so long ago that my hair was short back then!) but will ‘get with the programme’ soon.
When eat and are distracted by another task ie reading, watching TV, on the laptop etc, it’s been proven that the amount of food we eat is increased. Recent studies suggest when people eat lunch at their desks, cortisol and stress levels are increased which can have the effect of increased fat accumulation in the body. When we take a break and nourishing our body with food, water and oxygen we can avoid a stress, feel more relaxed and focused.
Creating time for a healthy meal will improve both mental and physical well-being too. Eating regular nutritious meals will re-energise the body and help to us focus and concentrate. By eating even small amounts of breakfast or lunch, this will recharge and help to feel more revitalised so that we can get some work in the afternoon. Eating lunch ensures metabolism is active and if meals are avoided there is a tendency to overeat or make poor nutritional choices.
We were in town at the weekend, celebrating our anniversary with lunch at Jamie Oliver’s (which was lovely btw) and noticed that there are lots of notices around encouraging bookings for Christmas!! Oh no, seems to get earlier every year!
