where there are explanations on what stress is, understanding stress and how it affects us. Things that might help are eating for wellbeing, prioritizing your health, practicing deep breathing, get moving to combat stress, get out, go for a walk, breathe, meditation etc.
In the US, April is also Move More month and I think that we should adopt it here in the UK too. Exercise releases ‘happy hormones’ in our body that make us feel good and reduces stress.
Again in the US, 3 April is National Chocolate Mousse Day. Now we’re talking! It doesn’t have to be a full-on milk chocolate, full-of-sugar and cream type mousse either. As you know, I like to make various chocolate/cacao mousse using avocado, banana, sometimes chia seeds, almond or other non-dairy milk. Whatever type you like, enjoy but maybe only stick to having one on Wednesday, ha.
Closer to home: it’s Edinburgh Science Festival 6-21 April where Edinburgh has lots of workshops, performances and adventures for scientists of all ages. This year is inspired by the 50th anniversary of the moon landings and the festival theme is Frontiers; exploring the boundaries of knowledge and the spirit of adventure and enquiry that drives science, technology, engineering and maths. Enjoy.

Just to remind you that during the Easter holidays, all of our classes are ON.
I’ve just found out about The Refillery, 39 Newington Road which opened earlier this year. I haven’t been yet but if you go, please let me know what it’s like. Anyway, it’s the first dedicated plastic-free grocery store so if you’re looking to buy general groceries, herbs & spices, organic and seasonal fruit & veg, eggs, bread etc or cleaning products etc, then just take along your jars, tubs, containers and fill up. You weigh your container first, fill then reweight and pay at the till.
On their website, you can learn about plastic problems and be inspired to reduce your plastic consumption. Sounds good to me as UK retailers generate around 800,000 tonnes of packaging waste a year and seemingly, only about 1/3 of this gets recycles.

I use turmeric or a turmeric blend powder a lot by adding to curries, stews, porridge etc and you may know that it’s compound curcumin possesses fantastic and powerful anti-inflammatory and pain relieving properties. This makes it a great choice for anyone with joint related issues eg arthritis. It also supports the immune system too.
I also love using cinnamon powder in porridge or smoothies. It has antioxidant properties and is said to lower blood pressure and keeps blood sugar levels stable.
Fresh or ground ginger can be added to so many dishes too and it’s also great as it’s a warming spice so great at this time of the year.
