Interesting/Did you know that…
This month, it’s Organic September and sales of organic produce is growing and a lot of supermarkets incl the discount ones, are offering more organic fruit, veg and products. A University research found that eating more organic fruit, veg and cereals would provide additional antioxidants which would be equivalent to eating between 1 to 2 extra portions of fruit & veg a day. I’ve said it before but I think organic tastes better and coz it has more nutrients/no pesticides or chemicals, it’s better for you, for our environment and for animal welfare too. Make the change to eat or use as much organic produce (food, wine, skin care etc). If you use Twitter, find out more using the hashtag #OrganicSeptember

I’m wondering where have the first 8 months of this year gone? What’s happened in your life Jan-Aug and what have your achievements and your ups and downs been?

For me, so far, I’ve run a 10k, been to London for a long weekend, turned 60 and got my bus pass, become a gran (woo hoo, it’s just the best ever) and last Tuesday, returned from a 3 night lovely weekend in Dubrovnik, Croatia (would definitely recommend it). There were other ‘things’ in between and mostly they were about classes, visiting and seeing Steven and Nicola (our son and daughter), a couple of visits to Glasgow and a lot of eating and some (not much) drinking organic wine or a wee g&t and family birthdays and anniversaries.
We’re now into the last 4 months of 2017 and into Autumn so let’s keep up the momentum in keeping ourselves as fit and healthy as possible. Keep exercising, keep and stay active, strong and flexible and have fun too.
So, I can’t wait to see you again this week and to continue our fitness and workouts together and to catch up with you and hear what you’ve been up to.

Iron is an essential mineral and is an important component of haemoglobin in our red blood cells which carry oxygen round our bodies. If we don’t have enough iron, we can feel fatigued and it can have an impact on brain function and immunity and we can have iron deficiency anaemia. Did you know that vitamin C is needed to absorb iron so it might be a good idea to have a glass of orange juice with plant based (eg pulses, seeds, nuts, dark green veg, wholegrains, spirulina and dried fruits) or other foods containing iron (eg fish, meat & poultry).

I buy cans of organic (of course!) coconut milk and love the taste in smoothies, stews and soups. Did you know that coconut milk contains a beneficial fat called lauric acid which is great for energy and is linked to improved cholesterol levels and heart health? Now that Autumn’s here, I’ll be making my fave ‘go to’ hearty, filling and warming red lentil, veg (red pepper, onions, garlic, carrots, fresh spinach) and coconut soup – yum.

As all our classes are quite dynamic and can be challenging (in a good way), what better way to improve your fitness, muscle tone and bust some fat all at the same time? Of course, we need to eat healthily and sensibly, rest, relax and sleep well too to burn the fat.
