Welcome to this week’s newsletter & updates:

Did you know that as we age, the hippocampus, the part of the brain that sorts and stores information, loses volume.  According to studies, aerobic exercise can actually improve this essential region of the brain that is so closely involved in cognition

and …. exercise makes us feel better, it’s great for our mental health, gives us more energy to do what we need to do, whether it’s looking after kids or grandkids, get our work done and be productive.  We also want to stay in shape and keep ourselves moving, healthy and active for as long as we can.  I heard this the other day: ‘exercise doesn’t take time; it makes time’.  I like it.

I thought I’d share this tweet from @drmarkhyman about how to naturally increase dopamine:

  • Eat a diet consisting of real, whole food
  • Avoid or limit processed sugary food
  • Meditate daily
  • Exercise regularly
  • Spend time outdoors
  • Practice gratitude
  • Get good quality sleep
  • Limit time spent on your phone

We got a great comment about our Thursday fitness Pilates class last week – well, the comment was actually about the after-effects ie that the person had enjoyed a great sleep that night because he’d exercised and stretched in our class.  Good to know, thanks.

Keep your comments coming.

Here’s a link to a video of the Enchanted Forest, Pitlochry which was filmed by Bryce (Tue class) and he’s given his permission to share it with you here.  As he says in the video description: ‘The Enchanted Forest is a Sound and light event that takes place around Faskally Loch near Pitlochry each Autumn.  Covid had meant that there were no shows in 2020 or 2021 so it was great to have it back with the theme of being together again’  Enjoy

You know how I love food (ha, isn’t it obvious?)  I’m always thinking about it, eating it of course (too much, too often), anyway, here are 5 berry recipes and how to use them

You’ll also know that I love organic, herbal, ‘the good stuff’ and I love matcha as well as herbal teas too.  We were in Locavore, 118 Dalry Road last week for a delicious bowl of soup and also bought some loose tea (& other stuff).  Anyway, I hadn’t heard of seatea before but bought some of their sea chai blend – ‘a gentle invigorating mix of, among other things: star anise, cardamom, spearmint and dulce seaweed’.  It’s delicious.

For more of their tea blends and info, here’s their website: Sea Tea
