Here’s this week’s FITNESS & LIFESTYLE info, news & updates…
The beginning of the year is usually about making resolutions and now that we’re into the second half of the year, are you still following a plan or would like to make a plan for your current or future healthy lifestyle?
Would you like to be fitter, healthier, stronger, more motivated and positive?
Sit down and go through everything that you’re currently doing (or not doing) and evaluate your nutrition, current diet and exercise and fitness.
Ask yourself if you want to be healthier, have more energy and possibly lose some body fat, or if you’re sabotaging your diet by eating unconsciously (ie while you’re on your laptop, phone or in front of the TV, not even noticing what you’re eating or if you’re enjoying it), eating too much, eating fries, pizzas, convenience meals, drinking too much alcohol or not enough water. If so, then you may want to re-asses your nutrition and lifestyle and make a plan, ‘get on board’, make positive changes in all aspects of your health and lifestyle.
Start with one thing ie get more quality sleep by going to bed at the same time every night (say by 10.30pm) and getting up at the same time every morning – even at the weekends and try to get 8 hours restorative sleep a night. To improve your sleep, you may think about cutting out or back on caffeine, not drinking coffee after say midday. I’ve heard that 50% of caffeine stays in our system 8 hours after drinking it and 25% caffeine is still in our system 12 hours after consuming it – that may have an impact on not sleeping. Sleeping in a cool, dark room helps. If the light is coming in through the curtains or blinds, think about wearing an eye mask or get blackout blinds/curtains. Commit to your health, fitness, exercise and happiness.
Did you know that:
Edinburgh Food Festival started on 19 July but it runs until 28 July at Assembly George Square celebrating the finest Scottish produce. Entry is free and there are lots of stalls and street food in George Square Gardens – enjoy.

It’s almost time for the Fringe too – woo hoo, I can’t wait. If/when you’re going and can recommend a show, please let me know and I’ll pass it on.
‘Life isn’t about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself’ – George Bernard Shaw
‘You get in life what you have the courage to ask for’ – Oprah Winfrey
‘Sometimes, good things fall apart so better things can come together’ Marilyn Monroe
Believe that you can attain anything you wish and that you will receive all the help you need as long as you stay focused on your goal.
‘Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time’ – Thomas Edison
and… ‘I spend an insane amount of time wondering if I’m doing it right. At some point, I just remind myself that I’m doing my best. That is enough’.
Years and years ago, I got a present of a book by The Barefoot Doctor which I dipped into and kind-of forgot about but I’ve just come across him again on his website and youtube channel and thought you might be interested in too. It’s all about Taoism, meditation, life and there are videos etc on helping with stress, depression and anxiety, optimizing health etc. I particularly liked a tiny short FB video that was only about 1 minute long in which the Barefoot Doctor demonstrated that if you pummel both fists on one thigh then the muscles on the other thigh for a few seconds each then stop and release the energy, you’ll have more drive and motivation. I’ve tried it and it works. No harm in trying it yourself.
If you like listening to podcasts (I love to listen to them while travelling on the train to/from London), I like: The Slow Home podcast which is all about slow living in a fast world.
I also like David Wolfe’s The Longevity Now and Dr Mark Hyman’s podcasts too – all about lifestyle and health.
I’d like to hear from you so please give me any feedback about our classes, how you’re getting on, your diet and lifestyle, where you’re going on holiday, if you’ve got anything to share with us here ie interesting articles or tips, thanks.
All classes are on right through the summer. I’m only away for some weekends which won’t impact on classes so hope to see you in as many classes as you can make.
I look forward to seeing you this week for more summer fitness, fun, exercise/stretch options & variations while we’re working towards improving our flexibility, strength, posture and balance too.
