Welcome to this week’s newsletter & updates:

Unless we’re in the habit of coming to classes, going to the gym and ensuring we make it to as many classes as we can, then fitting in regular exercise can be an ongoing challenge.

There always seems to be ‘other things to do’.

We might not be ‘in the mood’ to go to a class or a session.

We might decide not to go if it’s raining, sunny, cold, dark, or we might be too tired after a long day – believe me, I understand (especially if tired or not 100%).

After a long, hard day, maybe having not slept well the night before, then deciding to go to a class, especially in the evening, may not be your top priority.

Sometimes, we say ‘there’s not enough time’ but time is time.

We all have 24 hours in the day and it just depends what we want to fit into those hours.

It depends if we prioritize exercise, schedule it in to our diary or calendar and it’s ‘just what we do on a Wed/Fri morning or Tue/Thurs evening etc.

We all know the benefits of regular exercise (we’ve mentioned them loads of times in previous newsletters – have a look back and remind but .. we all know).

We recognise how we feel during and after a workout.

We get those ‘feel good’ chemicals flooding our bodies, our mood changes and we feel that we’ve achieved something.

We get a lot of great class feedback so this is all just to highlight and remind you that if you haven’t been to our class in a while, please come back and join us.

Here are some upcoming workout and class ‘events’:

We usually do a Halloween Wednesday workout at the end of October and instead of using hand weights, you can bring a medium sized pumpkin and we’ll use that as our weight (optional as always).

So our spooky Halloween workout will be a week on Wed ie 25 Oct.

Remember too that you can wear anything orange to ‘get in the spirit’ of things!

Don’t wait until 25 Oct to join us though.  Come to as many classes as you can – you know you’re most welcome and we’d love to see you and work out with you as always.

 

A few weeks away but on Tue & Thurs evenings in December, we always have fitness Pilates/Yoga by Candlelight and those will be on 5, 7, 12 & 14 Dec.

The weather’s been pretty good recently and it’s been good to get out for a walk.

When we’re outside and exposed to sunlight, our bodies make vitamin D which enhances our ability to produce the feel-good neurotransmitter serotonin.

So get out there, go for a walk as often as you can.

 

I read this recently and thought so true:

‘the biggest communication problem is we don’t listen to understand.  We listen to reply’.

 

We’re all human, we move, we grow, we adjust, adapt, we change so when I saw this online post, I thought, yep, also true …

It’s ok to change:

  • Your mind
  • Your goals
  • Your boundaries
  • Your mood
  • Your beliefs
  • Your expectation for yourself
  • What makes you happy
  • What you need in relationships
  • The support that you need

 

When we’re planning meals, fruit and veg that are in season are a great place to start and if we can harvest our own, fantastic but if not, buy locally, from farmers markets etc is a great idea.  Some in-season veg & fruits:

  • Butternut squash and pumpkin
  • Sweet potatoes
  • Beetroot
  • Brussels sprouts
  • Red cabbage
  • Apples
  • kale

 

How can we use them?  Well, maybe a butternut squash, pumpkin, sweet potato soup then a cooked or raw & grated beetroot, sprouts, kale, cabbage & apple salad, all tossed together with a EVOO (extra virgin olive oil) and fresh lemon and some chopped up herbs (eg mint, oregano or parsley) yum.

And .. I recently read that there’s a specific antioxidant in EVOO that has a powerful effect on the body.  It’s called oleocanthal and it’s anti-inflammatory effect helps by inhibiting enzymes that promote inflammation.  The antioxidant in the oil protects our cells from oxidative damage that would otherwise lead to accelerated aging and a lot of health conditions (eg neurodegenerative diseases ie Alzheimers).

According to a post that I read, over 300 peer-reviewed scientific studies implicate oleocanthal as a cancer protective, anti-inflammatory, antioxidative, antimicrobial and neuroprotective agent.

Talking of pumpkins, as mentioned above, our spooky Halloween workout is Wed 25 Oct.

 

Oh and clocks go back early morning on Sunday 29 October.

 

Easiest and best way that you can pay for classes:

  • With cash ie £6 per class (always best and I have change)
  • Directly into my bank account (if you don’t have my details, email me and I can give you my sort code & business account number).
  • Alternatively, using my SumUp card machine (although sometimes, it seems to ‘play up’!!)
