Welcome to this week’s short-ish newsletter & updates:

I came across a list of 7 Anti-Aging Superfoods and thought I’d share these ones with you.  These are foods that help slow down aging, ie reducing inflammation (one of the primary causes of aging), build collagen, protect the body from oxidative stress and damage.

  • Pomegranate seeds
    1. High in vitamin C, which helps protect the body from oxidative stress and damage.
    2. Vitamin C is also good for your skin.
  • Broccoli
    1. High in Vitamin C, Vitamin K and Calcium
  • Blueberries
    1. Blueberries have Vitamin A (which is good for our eyes), Vitamin C, and lots of antioxidants and polyphenols that are great for gut bacteria.
    2. Try to get wild blueberries or organic blueberries if you can otherwise, they may be sprayed and contain pesticides.
  • Spinach
    1. Spinach has Vitamins A, C and E (which is good for our skin).
    2. It’s rich in magnesium (which is good for muscles, bones & sleep)
    3. It also has lots of water, so it is hydrating for skin.
  • Almonds
    1. Rich in fibre, helps us feel full which helps maintain a healthy weight.
    2. They are anti-inflammatory and high in Vitamin E. Vitamin E is helpful in skin and tissue repair.
    3. Make sure you soak almonds (or any nuts), remove the skin or eat blanched almonds. Pre-soaked, rinsed nuts and seeds are healthier and easier to digest.
  • Avocados
    1. They have so many nutrients that are great for your skin.
    2. Rich in vitamins A, C, E, K and B vitamins, potassium and healthy fats.
  • Wild Caught Salmon
    1. Anti-inflammatory, rich in nutrients and rich in healthy fats, which are great for the brain.

 

So this is not an exhaustive list – there are more beneficial foods for our bodies and brains so a variety of colourful vegetables, fruits nuts, seeds, legumes, wild caught fish etc is key.  Although not food, coffee and tea are also good for us because they contain polyphenols, fibre and antioxidants.  Enjoy these delicious foods as well as water to stay hydrated especially when we’re exercising and if/when we get some nice warm weather.

Advance notice & another reminder that ALL CLASSES ARE ON this week and next week.

Then the only class that’s ON the following week is our Tuesday Fitness Pilates class on 30 April which you’re ALL welcome to come to at 7.30pm in Craiglockhart church hall then we’re off for the rest of that week and the next.

So classes NOT ON are: 1, 2, 3, 7, 8, 9 & 10 May.  Then we’ll be back again from Tuesday 14 May onwards again ‘as normal’.
