Hi, welcome and I hope that you’ll join us this week in our Fitness Pilates, Fitness Yoga & resistance/weights classes in Dreghorn Loan Hall, Colinton + Craiglockhart church hall, Edinburgh. They’re all level effective classes for men and women (except pregnancy) to help you improve your fitness, strength, stamina, core, posture and flexibility

Did you know that?
It’s long been known that exercise improves bone health. Strategies to improve and maintain bone health for postmenopausal women include exercise that is sufficiently intense (but of a short duration with rests inserted) to evoke bone growth, at the same time as eating a diet rich in essential nutrients gained from products ie dairy, green leafy vegetables, oily fish and prunes – from a recent article in FitPro

We’re advised to do weight-bearing exercise (this covers any activity that puts strain on the skeleton incl brisk walking) for healthier, stronger bones and luckily. Stressing our bones encourages the formation of new bone and the action is site-specific according to a Professor & advisor to the National Osteoporosis Society. The examples of site-specific bone building exercises he gives are that jogging builds bone in the hip and tennis in the forearm. Luckily, that’s what we’re doing in all our classes – all those lunges, squats in various directions with all the options are paying off and helping our bones stay healthy too yessss!

Just to let you know that cycling and swimming aren’t weight-bearing.

Refill is a national, practical tap water campaign that aims to make refilling your bottle as easy, convenient and cheap as possible by introducing refill points on every street.
There are now over 1,600 Refill stations across the UK (not one yet in Edinburgh yet tho) in participating cafes, bars, restaurants, banks, galleries, museums and other businesses. Refill is a free tap water initiative designed to reduce plastic pollution and promote healthy hydration by making refilling a water bottle easy, social and rewarding!
I know of a few in Edinburgh (Finisterre which is at 58 George Street), Jenner’s restaurant, railway station, some coffee cafes etc).

Colony of Artists 13th annual eclectic exhibition of more than 50 artists is on 22 + 23 September 12-6pm.
The Abbeyhill Colonies are situated at the junction of Easter Road and London Road in the east of the capital EH7 and the event will exhibit paintings, drawings, photography, mixed media, music etc. We went last year and it was a great event and if you’re going along, I’m sure that you’ll enjoy it too.

Reminders that:
• the Soil Association’s Organic September is still on and that all ½ price Manager’s Special daily offers in Real Foods are organic this month in support – some great savings and fewer pesticides, no routine antibiotics, artificial colours, preservatives and no genetically modified ingredients.
