Welcome to this week’s newsletter & updates:

Just to let you know that 2 weeks on Wed (26/10), we’ll probably have our Halloween Pumpkin workout so please bring a medium-size pumpkin with you as a weight.

Halloween dress-up optional.

I love this quote: “Aging is not lost youth but a new stage of opportunity and strength”.

Here’s another great quote “awareness is the beginning of consciousness” and “awareness creates the possibility of choice in relation to our food choices” (from David Wolfe)

I’ve just started a nutrition certification programme containing 10 modules and I’ll be learning all about nutrition and holistic health – something I’ve always been interested in.  Some of the take-away principles from one of the health experts says: firstly, we should be eating: local and in-season foods.

Then go for organic vegetables and fruits because they contain more vitamins and minerals than their non-organic counterparts.

Next, invest in a juicer or blender to make juices and smoothies to add more veggies and some fruits (again organic where possible) which contain more vitamins, minerals, protein, carbs, fats, fibre and enzymes into your diet in a quick and easy way.

We’re also advised to cut down on foods containing gluten, not just for those with coeliac disease but a lot of us have gluten sensitivities and gluten can affect intestinal linings and cause inflammation.

Next, a ‘biggie’ – reduce consumption of processed sugary foods which can lead to mood swings and cravings and can lead to disease.

I’ll leave it for there.  We’ve all read and heard about these health and diet principles but it’s good to be reminded.

Today 10 Oct is World Mental Health Day and is being supported by the World Health Organization and is about making mental health and wellbeing for all a global priority.

Find out more at World Mental Health Day 2022 (who.int) and there are lots of publications to look through there too.

In terms of exercise and our mental health:

Exercise improves mental health by reducing anxiety, depression, and negative mood and by improving self-esteem and cognitive function.  Exercise has also been found to alleviate symptoms such as low self-esteem and social withdrawal.

It’s National Cholesterol Month which is all about raising awareness and importance of maintaining a healthy cholesterol level.

According to National Cholesterol Month In October | HEART UK, ‘small changes can make a big difference to your cholesterol levels and heart health through your habit, diet and exercise’.

and On Thurs 13 Oct, it’s International Skeptics Day – hmm, I’m not sure about that one!

I just wanted to thank all the ‘new people’ who’ve recently joined our classes, to our amazing ‘regulars’ and those who used to come to our classes, who haven’t been exercising with us for one reason or another and I hope that if that’s you, that you’ll come back and join us again.

In any case, thank you for being part of Complementary Fitness and for your fantastic class feedback.

Reminder that you can pay for classes:

With cash ie £6 per class

Directly into my bank account

Using my SumUp card machine.

Remember to let me know if you have any comments, news and keep me updated with anything that’s happening with you ie health-related stuff, goals, achievements etc.

I look forward to seeing you and working out with you this week.
