Interesting/Did you know that…
On Wednesday and Friday 9.30am this week, we’re back in Dreghorn Loan church hall.
Although this Thursday 3 Aug, our 7pm PiYo (Pilates/Yoga mix) class is in the Dell Room which is in Colinton Parish Church, Dell Road, Colinton.
I hope that you’ll join us in these classes and apologies for the change of venue (again) on Thursday).
Oh and our Tuesday 7.30pm Fitness Pilates class is in Craiglockhart church as usual.
I love shopping in my regular health (& other) food shops: ie Real Foods, realfoodsource.com (online for nuts, nut butters etc) and also love Jan de Vries (JdeV). I subscribe to all these newsletters too and thought you might like to know that JdeV’s website is: yourhealthfoodstore.co.uk and if you use the voucher code LEAFLET10 today (31 July), you’ll get 10% off. They have a wide range of health foods, herbal remedies, vitamin supplements and natural beauty products too and you can also sign up for ‘Take 5 samples’ where you can choose and get 5 free samples of products each month.
I love Nest & Glow’s healthy recipes and thought I’d share one with you here:
At the weekend, we were in The North Face shop in town and I noticed that they had a big recycling bin and some leaflets beside it. The leaflet says that you can drop in any clothing and footwear into the Clothes The Loop recycling bin. They can be any brand and in any condition. You can ask for a coupon in the store which will earn a reward towards the purchase of North Face products.
Details on their website at thenorthface.com/clothestheloop
Oh, just to let you know that if/when you’re thinking of throwing out/recycling any ladies trainers, feel free to give them to me/Norman and he’ll take them into the prison as some of the women prisoners don’t have any – thanks.
An interesting Albert Einstein quote: ‘Imagination is everything. It is the preview of life’s coming attractions’
Numerous studies have reported that naturally occurring chemical compounds in organic matcha green tea are anti-carcinogenic by inducing cancer cell death and inhibiting cancer cell growth.
I’ve just read that research from the Uni of Chichester has discovered that some organic matcha tea boosts fat burning during exercise in healthy females with no adverse physiological effects (ie raised heart rate or blood pressure). Matcha green tea contains one of the highest concentrations of polyphenols and antioxidants called ‘catechins’ in any commercially-grown food. It goes on to say that EGCg, L-theanine and natural caffeine are the likely active ingredients that delivers the weight loss and potential sports performance benefits.
The nutrients and enzymes in this tea are considered to reduce the production of free radicals in the skin and free radicals are usually responsible for speeding up the ageing process. You can find out more by visiting: omgteas.co.uk or research the benefits of matcha green tea yourself.
I love eating, I often over-eat and sometimes eat when distracted (watching TV, on the laptop etc) and I know that I think ‘oh well, I’m exercising, eat healthily and go for a second helping but I read that eating when we’re not physically hungry, we become disconnected from consciously turning into and listening to our body’s hunger signals which makes us overeat! I’ll have to take the advice of eating slowly, chewing properly, putting my fork down more often and being conscious of what I’m eating and enjoying every mouthful.
Oh we found another new (new to us, been open a few weeks) vegan café at 20 Lochrin Buildings, Lochrin Place and it’s called Grassroots Health. It’s on the No 10 bus route, stop before the Kings and we a flat white and a herbal tea and shared a delicious chocolate cake. You can read reviews and find out more through happycow.net and searching for the café and type in Edinburgh.
I use happycow website when looking for veggie & vegan cafes and restaurants before we venture abroad.
