Did you know that…
I hope that you’ve remembered but you’ll also notice above that on Thursday this week, there’s only one class which will be a combined Fitness Yoga/Pilates “PiYo” class and it’s in the Dell Room. The Dell Room is a big room in Colinton Parish Church, Dell Road. It’s a lovely room with a great view. So no 6.35pm class on Thursday mainly because the choir are moving out of the Dell Room to accommodate us.
Both classes will be ‘back to normal’ next Thursday 11 May in Dreghorn Loan church hall. I hope that everyone who normally comes to Fitness Yoga and Fitness Pilates on a Thursday will come to the one class at 7.30pm and I look forward to seeing you then.

a tablespoon of chia seeds provides more than double the amount of omega-3 fatty acids in a salmon fillet! You know I love to add chia seeds into smoothies and love making chia puddings too and both are great for breakfast.

It’s said that turmeric can boost memory (note to self: must remember! to eat more of it and more regularly) and it also has anti-inflammatory properties too. I add it into porridge, stews, smoothies etc.

Iron deficiency is linked with tiredness and poor academic performance so make sure that you’re getting enough as a lack of iron can lead to anaemia and compromise the immune system. Good sources include meat, beans, nuts, wholegrains, dark green leafy veg and fortified cereals.

Keeping yourself active can help relieve stress and tension. I’ve read that anxiety accumulates like water dripping into a glass or bucket and if you don’t regularly empty it, it will overflow.
It’s a good idea to take time to relax and unwind every day. Perhaps do some mindful breathing or meditation which will help.

May is National Walking Month and the campaign promotes walking for everyone no matter what your fitness level is. As I’ve said before, we’re lucky that we’ve got lots of lovely walks in Edinburgh – up in the Pentlands, the canal, along Portobello Prom, Colinton Dell etc and it’s a lovely way to get some fresh air, some sun (here’s hoping) and keep ourselves fit and active too.

On Friday, we went through to Glasgow and stayed overnight and on the Saturday, went to the Old Fruitmarket, Candleriggs and had a wander round Glasgow Contemporary Art Fair. The art fair was just on over the weekend but it was great to see some lovely original art and chat to some of the artists too. Didn’t buy anything though!
