Be part of Red For Heart

National Wear Red Day – Friday 24 February

Last year, on Wear Red Day, we had our very own red themed event – we wore something red in class and raised money for British Heart Foundation.  On Friday 24 Feb this year, let’s do the same and help to raise even more money for the charity.  Dig out all your red stuff or fancy dress and wear it to the class at 9.30 am.  Like our Red Nose Day event last year, I’m thinking we could also have an ‘after class coffee, cake and baking event’ so if you want to come to my house after the class (you might need to bring the car to class 1st) and have coffee/tea, cakes, and buy (donations please) home baking.  I’ve set up a Just Giving and Team Page where you can donate online too it’s at

http://www.justgiving.com/Susan-Cockburn   Have a look at the photos on there too.

If you don’t want to donate money through Just Giving as above, you can donate in class and/or at the Coffee and Cake Event on the day – thanks.

Life

Life isn't about how to survive the storm, but how to dance in the rain.

Worry is like a rocking chair – it keeps you busy but gets you nowhere.

Quote of the day:

Live without pretending, love without depending, listen without defending and speak without offending. www.theconfidencegarden.com

Active Resting

If you exercise (hopefully you do – with me), you need to give your body some time to heal but resting doesn’t have to mean lying on the sofa flipping through the channels.  You could try active relaxation: sit on the floor with your legs crossed and your back upright and concentrate on breathing very slowly and deeply for at least 10 minutes while thinking about nothing in particular.  This should make your heartbeat slow down, your blood pressure drop and your muscles relax.  It’ll make you feel better, boost your immune system and it helps burn fat by stopping stress-related hormones going about their fat-storing duties.

Half your plate

Half your plate. Half your plate at lunch and dinner needs to be vegetables.  Make sure you stock up. if you eat out the same rule applies.  Order at least one side order of vegetables.

Breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, dine like a pauper

There's a lot of truth to this old saying.  You need food for energy during the day, so it doesn't make sense to eat half your day's food in the evening.  Also, it's not a good idea to go to bed still digesting your supper.  As a general rule, eat dinner early and leave at least 2 hours before going to bed.
